Decoration Tip-October

Pamper your home this fall, invest in a new carpet!
Tip by Leila Real interior designer at Gibson

Rugs are essential pieces to decorate our house, they make the environment more welcoming, guiding the movement within the spaces, as well as being alone pieces of unique design.

The options are many, from classic to contemporary and each person has their own style and preferences (as for everything else!).

Oriental rugs (associated with the so-called "classics") are pieces that become invaluable throughout the centuries without losing the magic and mystery of its history. Within this category Persian rugs, stand out as more traditional and valuable.

Sometimes we associate Oriental rugs to classic environments which is not necessarily true since there are many styles of Oriental rugs, such as Gabbeh, which are much sought after by younger customers.

Contemporary rugs are increasingly a big trend, particularly the ones made from natural fibers such as coconut, sisal and wool. Most of them are also custom made, which facilitates the integration in environments where space is more limited.

Contemporary carpets can also replicate works of famous artists, or new creations  signed by renowned designers.
Many contemporary rugs copy the traditional Persians, but cost much less, since their value increases with time.

Needs to fit!

Rugs delimit and define spaces, so it is very important to consider their size, and make sure that it is proportional to the surrounding environment.

In the living room, for example, you must have a minimum width of the couch, going about 50cm under the furniture.

In the dining room, the carpet should be 70cm longer than the sides of the tabletop so you can move the chairs with ease.

In the rooms, the carpet also needs to have a gap on the sides and footer- we all like to walk on the carpet when we get out of bed, right? The optimal measurement is 60cm at the sides and 1meter at the feet.

Of course the environment is a decisive factor and it all depends on where it is placed. In large environments, for example, may be best to carpets where the furniture was entirely upon them, thus filling more space.
However, cases in which the piece has some detail that we want to show we should not put carpet!
